One of the most important functions of the Paint & Decorating Retailers Association has always been its commitment to helping retailers succeed by offering relevant, up-to-date education programs. In accordance with that commitment, PDRA is very excited to debut a new series of training tools for independent retailers in 2018. These resources have been developed as part of PDRA’s alliance with the North American Retail Hardware Association, and they are geared toward helping independent retailers develop, implement and maintain ongoing training programs for their stores.
The first resource, the Train the Trainer guide, will walk retailers through the steps to setting up a training program, and addresses training employees on the job, training long-time employees, and much more. This guide is a great starting point for any independent retailer to start a training program or to re-energize an existing program and it will also help employees looking to take on more responsibility.
Another new training resource will be the Trainer’s Toolbox. This comprehensive set of tools will include lessons covering operations, merchandising, and selling skills. It includes videos, PowerPoint presentations and worksheets that trainees can use individually or in groups. New lessons are in development and will be released throughout 2018.
