WallPops' research indicates that tween and teen-age girls prefer bolder colors.

Room décor for tween and early teen girls isn’t all about pink motifs and fairy-tale princesses anymore, according to research conducted by WallPops, a line of peel-and-stick wall art from Brewster Home Fashions.
WallPops conducted focus groups to determine what types of wall art would appeal to the evolving tastes of girls in the age range of 11 to 13. What this research revealed is that these girls like a variety of vibrant colors beyond pink, including bright greens, oranges and blues as a means of distinguishing themselves from girls who are younger in age from themselves.
Focus groups with college students revealed a further evolution of color preferences. This age group was found to be moving beyond strong hues toward more subtle neutrals and more mature designs, such as animal prints as depicted in WallPops Go Wild, a black-and-white zebra pattern. An interesting twist is that pink reasserts itself as a more popular color choice, now that this group no longer feels the urge to differentiate themselves from girls who are younger than them.
“We have known for years that tweens are an emerging demographic, and the trend for this group to decorate is one of the hottest today,” said Paula Berberian, for Brewster Home Fashions Creative Services Manager. “It is all about fun and color galore, because tweens today feel that their bedrooms, like the clothes they wear, are forms of self expression. What we didn’t expect were some of the surprising responses from our focus groups this summer and early fall.”
The WallPops line, which is conveniently repositionable and removable, can fit the changing preferences of girls as they grow older. “Many tween girls have indeed matured away from pinks along with purple and more traditional feminine colors and designs,” Berberian stated. “We are, however prepared for that change with edgy looks, like our Twister design with a violet, tan, deep cerulean blue and olive green retro pattern with free-flowing swirls and dots with die-cut stripes and additional on-trend products coming out in the next few months.”
WallPops are available in large 13-inch circles (Dots), 13-inch squares (Blox), 6 1/2-inch x 16-foot continuous rolls (Stripes) and die-cut shapes such as flowers, concentric circles and hearts. Also available, Wall Art Kits that include several pieces of wall art and WallPops Dry Erase Sheets, Dry Erase Monthly Calendars and 4-Piece Calendar Sets that serve as great organizational tools.
In addition to the aforementioned WallPops Go Wild and Twister, among the patterns that fit in with what girls like are:
• Bali: Black-and-white intricate designs in large-scale modular shapes, dramatic lines and curves.
• Carnivale: Featuring this design blends circular motifs with blossoming floral patterns inspired by Brazilian margaridas in warm, sun-kissed tones.
• Habitat: Brings the outdoors in with an artistic take on leaves expressed through popular earth tones such as brown and gray with lime green and teal infusions, designed with a more mature audience in mind.
