With the PDRA Paint & Accessories Show at the National Hardware Show® in Las Vegas fast approaching, we here at PDRA, as well as many industry insiders, are applauding some very good news: residential and commercial construction industry hiring has reached its highest level since June of 2009.
According to the article “New Report Marks Hiring Growth” in the April issue of Paint & Decorating Retailer, a recent report published by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) stated that construction employers added and estimated 15,000 workers to payrolls in February 2014. In fact, the rate of construction hiring has outpaced hiring in the overall economy for the past year, according to Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist.
Retailers should be especially delighted about this news, since new construction projects will dramatically influence sales in the retail paint and decorating market. The projected up-swing in retail paint and decorating sales will mean opportunities for independent retailers to not only sell more of the products they already carry, but also to try out new product lines.
This year’s PDRA Paint & Accessories Show, which is scheduled for May 6-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, is shaping up to be the perfect place for independent retailers to experience the hundreds of premier paint and decorating products that are available to them. With over 250 manufacturers planning to exhibit their products at the show, retailers will be able to browse and often see live demonstrations of products in many different product categories.
