The Importance of Going Mobile

In today's fast paced world, just about everyone has a mobile smartphone. According to Digby.com, a marketing and analytics website, in 2013 56% of American adults were smartphone users, and 75% of Americans under the age of 43 were smartphone users. Digby also predicts that by 2015, 80% of U.S. cell phone users will have smartphones.

Bear with me for a moment and consider a few more statistics from Digby.com:

• 70% of shoppers used a smartphone while in a retail store in 2013.
• 80% of smartphone owners want more mobile-optimized product information while they're shopping in stores.

Here are several more statistics to which retailers should pay close attention:

• 57% of consumers will not recommend a business with a poorly designed mobile site.
• 40% of consumers will go to a competitor's site after a bad mobile experience.


PDRA Announces 2014 Scholarship Award Competition

PDRA is proud to announce the 2014 PDRA Scholarship Award Competition, which is awarded to one student each calendar year. The $5000 scholarship, which is generously sponsored by the National Hardware Show®, is open only to PDRA retail members in good standing. Each member is allowed to nominate two candidates. Members may nominate employees, friends, or relatives to receive the award. Eligible candidates must be at least in the senior year of high school and be less than 26 years of age at the time of nomination.


Paint Stewardship Programs: A Win – Win Proposition

There is a very strange phenomenon that all homeowners have to deal with at some time or another. It goes something like this: an unsuspecting homeowner paints her living room a lovely shade of Moss Green. She uses all but several inches of the paint in the can, replaces the lid tightly and deposits the can into one of the dark corners of her basement. Six or seven years pass, the nicely sealed Moss Green can all but forgotten. Then one day, after re-painting the living room a beautiful Buttery Yellow, she returns to the dark basement corner with the unused portion of new paint to find nine cans of partially-used paint lurking there with Moss Green - somehow that one lonely can of unused paint had replicated itself 9 times!
